IPAFeed database: Effects of GM feed on livestock productivity and animal health

The new online database IPAFeed (Information Platform for Animal health and GM Feed) facilitates access to study data on the impact of GM feed on livestock productivity and animal health. The database also contains a collection of studies aimed at detecting specific GM feed components (DNA and proteins) in livestock animals. It has been established within the EU-funded project MARLON (Monitoring of Animals for Feed-related Risks in the Long Term) using a specialised protocol for systematic scientific literature searches.

IPAFeed consists of three sections:

  • “GM feed consumption” brings together the measurements of livestock productivity and health parameters made during numerous studies assessing the impacts of GM feeds on livestock health.
  • “DNA and protein detection” contains experience in the detection of transgenic DNA or newly expressed proteins in livestock fluids and tissues.
  • “Health monitoring programs” is a list of the existing livestock health monitoring programs and initiatives in a number of EU countries.

IPAFeed can be accessed at www.ipafeed.eu
